Waterloo Banking Project is now incorporated. The papers that officially create our corporation as a not-for-profit as of June 3 arrived on July 13, the day of our summer meeting. Our official corporate name is Waterloo Banking & Financial Services Research, Development & Education Project.

This entity is not the one that would offer the financial services, but the organization that is working towards establishing those services. The law governing corporations without share capital, not-for-profits, requires them to state the purposes of the entity. Ours say this:

In June, we paid a visit to the Credit Union National Association in Madison, Wisconsin.

We met with Phil Heckman the director of youth programs in the associations centre for personal finance. We discussed personal finance initiatives, the state of credit unions in the U.S., and student credit union initiatives.

We are holding meetings to inform interested students about our initiative, update supporters and staff about our progress, and collect input from attendees about issues we are researching. Food and drinks will be provided.

University Affairs recently published a story about our initiative. The magazine and website are published by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. The article summarizes our plans and how we are bringing a pioneering idea to our campuses in Waterloo — WLU and UW.
